Let's see some Masks!!

I'm sure all of you already know what I'm going to share right now. Masks maybe? Yeah, true. Discovered some mask related shops from Etsy, and looking forward to share them. Wouldn't you find one, yes you would. But what about the ones who couldn't decide yet? I hope I can help them out with my handpicked items.

One of the shops I discovered in Etsy is 4everstore, a huge mask shop which has too many original works and too many different style masks for different tastes. I liked their designs a lot, there is a mix of classic and unusual design. Prices are affordable. They sell Venetian and steampunk inspired masks, and have copule masks too. Great for carnival theme, though.

Some picks :

Silver bead fringed mask, $25
Couple masquerade masks, $35

One of my favorites... Black and purple Mardi Gras Mask, $40

A half-face Mask, decorated with Gems and Feathers $20
A jester mask, $32
Gold and pink mask full-face Mask, $65
Enough with Venetians, let's see some Day of the Dead (aka. Dia de los Muertos) or Sugar Skull designs:

An elegant skull mask, has white version too, $30
A fancy Day of the Dead design, half mask $20
A full face sugar skull, (there are more designs like that, I picked just one) $20
There are some more masculine and Steampunk-ish designs:

Half face Steampunk mask, $30
Male Steampunk mask (supposed to be for men's but I like that the most) $30
Roman design, $22
For more designs and inspiration, see the 4everstore Etsy shop homepage, and check it out! ( I would like to have a shop with that much items. Mine is poorly emty compared to them. Because I'm lazy, lol!!)

Another shop, with more edgy and Steampunk designs, is TomBanwell, has great lasercut masks within Steampunk ones. Most of their designs are leather based. I wanna share the ones I like amongst too many cool masks. Laser cut first :

Lasercut raven mask, $59, that reminds me Thor dunno why

Snowflake lasercut leather mask, $39
A colorful one, $45
Spiderweb mask, $39
Dragonfly design, like the upper part, $39
Steampunk right now. Especially liked gas masks. I wonder if they are really useful or just look like gas mask.

the famous Plague Doctor mask. Has different colors and varieties in shop page. $215
Steampunk mask, $395
Gas Mask finally, YAY!! Looks so cool! I need one but don't think it's protective. But I would be top protester of day with that. Ehmm... Whatever. That's $175
If you liked some of them or wanna see even more, visit the shop home page, and look what's there for you.

And now... Found something truly for festival. UV reactive colors ofcourse!! RagingPandaNYC doing it right! Psychedelic masks that glowing in dark, as we will see now:

Psychedelic Predator mask, $60
OOAK UV painted Guy Fawkes Mask, $55
One more Guy Fawkes, El Wire this time, $60
OOAK Mandale painted UV mask, $60
If you wanna see more UV painted design, visit the shop homepage from here. All of designs are one of a kind, as a detail.

That's all for that post, I hope you liked my picks. Next post will be about mask-concepted or detailed pieces, that means we are going to keep hanging on masks for a while. I will share one tutorial too, this week most likely. If you have any suggestion or know some cool shops, please let me post&share.

Cya next time!! don't forget to take your mask on!

Burning Man 2015: Mirrors, Masks, and A Magic Carnival

Hello all visitors and dwellers of my Asylum!

I supposed to write that yesterday, but everything worked together for not to let me post a blog. (especially Sakura, my little monster)

As my first theme, there wouldn't be a better one than Burning Man. Because Burning Man is awesome. (and so Burners) Because Burning Man is real Fashion Asylum. And because... This year's art theme is something I fell in love with. (Too bad cannot be there... That's why we should think twice before being a mom, LOL xD)

As I told, 2015 Art Theme is announced as Carnival of Mirrors, explained as "This Carnival of Mirrors asks three essential questions: within our media-saturated world, where products and people, consumption and communion morph into an endlessly diverting spectacle, who is the trickster, who is being tricked, and how might we discover who we really are?" in official website. (see the full article here if you haven't seen it yet)

Since they announced that theme, I focused at masks and mask themed designs can make a good element on costumes, and choose to share my explorings via with my weekly Masks concept. I hope you enjoy.

That would make a great Burning Man costume
this year

Venetian mask and a mirror.

As a big fan of Venetian masks, I like to design them, and first thing I remember is a Venetian mask when topic is "mask". But unfortunately I haven't wear them a lot, instead I have worn gas mask too many times, almost as a routine. ( Yeah, demonstrations. Thanks to our dictator, even a simple and peaceful demonstration or protest becomes gas chamber within minutes here in my country...)

Plague doctor from history

A part of Steampunk costumes, that plague doctor masks are
pretty awesome too. Despite the fact a plague doctor is a Renaissance thing, still using in Victorian-themed Steampunk costumes, but it looks pretty baddass. I'm sure most of Burners knows them, but couldn't skip. Because they were very helpful to me during the game Assasin's Creed, it doesn't matter how freaky they are.

Some interesting masks I've picked from somewhere else, which can be an inspiration for creative folks:

A turquoise mosaic covered Astec skull mask.

Scold's Bridle, a Medieval punitive mask for
public humiliation

A WWI tank mask
An Inca sun God mask
Japanese traditional Noh theater masks

Siberian shamanic mask
Omani women with traditional Bedu Mask

Picture tells itself. Used in Insane Asylum in 17th Century. Now moved to Fashion Asylum lol!
And so! There was a huuuge mask database around world but I choose to go with underrated and interesting ones. (someone said interesting? err... Creepy, maybe?) In the next one, I will share some featured indie shops which I picked online. Untill next post, see ya! Don't forget to put your mask on!

A Fashion Asylum: Getting Started

Yesterday, I was about to start blogging in an excited mood, like a crazy monster which is ready to consume all letters in the keyboard. But today I took a deep breath and decided to talk about contains a little, and explain something important for followers or featured shops.

I decided to go with weekly concepts, as long as there are a huge stocks of stuff waiting for me to write about. Each week I will choose a concept and go with it. I will anounce my next concept at Saturdays, And will go with it during current week. Concepts include different genres, events, fest or important days, movies, books, tv shows etc. My beloved readers, please feel free to offer a concept for next week.

I created a weekly routine for my posts, I will try to keep in that plan as much as I can. (Like I'm the most organized person of the world... Nah..) The weekly routine is:

Mon: Introduction of concept, main elements, some interesting informations
Tue: Featured shops
Wed: Look book, pickings, featured looks
Thu: DIY and tutorials
Fri: Fashion trips, creation stories, inspirations
Sat: Free articles, random stuff
Sun: Off... YAY!

A Fashion Asylum is NOT a promotion blog. My main purpose is not promoting, there are some promoting elements like featuring shops and items, but the reason behind featuring is not a pure promotion idea but it's helping people who like them, and supporting indie crafters and designers. Sharing my own creations has a promoting side for sure, but that's not why I'm into blogging. (Compared to how much time a blog consumes, there are too many better and easier promotion ways.)

FOR THE SHOP OWNERS WHO WANTS TO BE FEATURED:

Please contact me via Etsy shop or blog itself. If your shop or items fits in any concept I will keep you in mind. Contact doesn't mean any promise. I don't ask for anything free or any gift for featuring anything, even if my blog becomes fame. Only following and sharing the blog in your social media would be nice and enough motivation.

GIVEAWAYS:

There will be giveaways for sure, especially for things I made in tutorials. But I don't like to attract people with free stuff, that means a follower population who never read blog but followed for a moment. the first commented reader who is willing to pay shipping fee will have them.

YAY!! That's end of serious stuff. Next posts will be funnier and more colorful, promise!!

Welcome to the Fashion Asylum!

A huge welcome and greetings to all my future followers, readers and anyone who interested in alternative fashion. (I always find the beginning words of a blog are hardest ones, too much good wishes, introductions and stuff... Whatever, almost there...)  I'm planning to start with this blog for a long time, but that's still hard to know how to begin.(Even though nobody pays attention to those first posts)

I'm a fashion designer and an artist (a lazy one lol) who after unusual and creative streams. I always liked to explore and discover local fashion streams, creative indie fashion and unique looks. Travelling around world, I experienced too many elements of fashion. Asking to myself, I can't tell whats my style because there is none. I have my own line, forms, strokes and tastes on my designing but when it comes to name it... Well, I can't.

This blog doesn't contain a single fashion style, but contains lots of different genres, styles and tastes together. Alternative fashion genres who slighty related but very independent itself, it's most likely an mixed alternative style guide. My post will include inspirations, featured shops, my favorite picks from indie and less known designers around world, DIY ideas and tutorials, tips and advices, fashion trips, creation stories and anything I want to share with people.

You can see my online Etsy shop here : https://www.etsy.com/shop/PinkPlagueDesign?ref=hdr_shop_menu

Please read and enjoy. I thank anyone who read, follow, comment and share my blog!
